Whether you just need to know where to camp nearby or you want to plan a free camping road trip, we've got you covered. Stayed here with a passenger vehicle and a tent. Perhaps in a lucky spot you might get some signal and basic messages out, but you should assume that your phone will not work. Unlike other places you may choose to camp, there was no phone (Verizon) service up there. I camped in Fall, it's pretty cold up there. It's just fine in an Outback, low-clearance vehicles will have to make wise decisions, but it's definitely possible. The road is indeed dirt and the side roads where you will probably camp are even more rough. It's maybe 25min from the official Red Rocks campsite. I mainly recommend this site if you want somewhere cool, nice and aren't too concerned about the drive to/from town.

To get out here, you also have a drive up a fuel-eating pass. It's a drive from Las Vegas, 40min or more back to central LV - it is amazing how far apart things are here. Very peaceful and plenty of spaces which isolate you from others who may be around, unlike so much of the open desert in the area. Stayed here in a 24 foot-long Class C (RV). I'm sure that hundreds of people have stayed here without any problems, but just sayin, keep an eye out for the crazies. When we started yelling, assuming that he just didn't see us, he looked right at us shot two more times. There are signs all over that say 'No Discharging Firearms.' But still someone shot across the road from a bank right above where we were running. On our second day at this spot, we decided to run up Lovell Canyon Road.

Plus I love that Lovell Canyon Road is sponsored by magicians! (only in Vegas.) We spent two nights here, and both nights it was a nice place to destress from the overstimulation of Las Vegas, but still be able to get back and forth from there pretty easily. We saw big RVs and people tenting, still there were tons of spots to chose from for our Sprinter van. It's very accessible, there are tons of sites and even some juniper trees for shade, and it's relatively clean compared to other sites we have been to in this area. Let me start off by saying this is a great place to camp.
